I’ve written about nutritional supplements before, so you probably know that I’m pretty sceptical about most of them. On the whole, I believe it’s better for people to get what they need from real food. Not only are the nutrients in food more bioavailable (ie. the body can actually use them), but also supplements make it easy to overload the body with synthetic nutrients, which can cause more harm than good.

Personally, I take vitamin D in winter, and I take Adcal (calcium and vitamin D3), which is prescribed by my oncologist because I have osteoporosis. In my line of work, I sometimes get sent supplements to try, so I’ve dipped a toe into lots of different ones. I do think there’s an argument for taking omega 3 if you don’t eat fish, a vitamin B complex if you’re a vegan, and maybe even a mushroom supplement if you don’t like mu…
