Everyone is (still) talking about fasting. There are claims that it’s the miracle cure for everything from gut issues to dementia. And, while I’m not sure about that, I do agree it’s a worthwhile idea to give our digestive system a break. Snacking culture is not good for us, which is why I came up with the SEAT plan as a way to remind me to Stop Eating All the Time.

The advice we hear most often is to limit eating to a 10-hour window. For many of us, this means finishing dinner by 8pm, and then not eating until 10am. However, a lot of people try to extend their overnight fast by not eating breakfast until around midday. If you finish dinner by 10pm, they reason, that’s a 14-hour fast, which the experts have said is good, right?
